The Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the Australian College of Christian Studies opens the door to a fulfilling teaching career where you can make a meaningful impact in high school students’ lives and learning.

This program equips you to specialise in two teaching areas, meeting ACARA and NESA requirements. Specialisations are available in Ancient History, Commerce/Business Studies, English, Mathematics, Modern History, Music, Science and Studies of Religion.

With 60 days of Professional Experience in schools, you will transition from theory to practice, stepping into real classrooms to apply your learning and discover the profound joy of teaching. Our comprehensive program welcomes both career changers and recent graduates, building on your existing knowledge and experience while equipping you with essential pedagogical skills for classroom excellence.

Our programs integrate Christian education principles, curriculum knowledge and contemporary pedagogy to prepare you for the complex and rewarding role of teaching. By graduation, you will be fully prepared to begin your teaching journey, ready to make a lasting difference in the lives of students and their communities.

Upon completion, graduates meet the academic and professional requirements for teacher registration with the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA), enabling them to apply for teacher registration in other states and territories across Australia.

Academic Requirements
Applicants must hold a recognised Australian bachelor’s degree (or equivalent international qualification) that meets the content requirements for their intended teaching area(s).

English Language Proficiency
Strong English skills are essential for success in our courses, enabling you to engage fully in lectures, tutorials, assignments and professional experience placements.

  • If English is not your first language, you are required to provide evidence of
    proficiency.
  • Acceptable evidence includes an IELTS Academic result (or equivalent) of:
    o Overall: 7.5
    o Minimum: 7.0 Reading, 7.0 Writing, 8.0 Listening, 8.0 Speaking

Non-Academic Attributes
Personal Statement (NAAT Submission)
Applicants must submit a 150-word statement for each of the following:
1. Motivation & Suitability for Teaching – Why do you want to become a teacher? What skills and experiences have prepared you for this role?
2. Personal Learning & Leadership – Describe how you demonstrate conscientiousness and resilience when facing challenges.
3. Planning & Organisation Skills – Provide examples of how you plan and coordinate tasks in your personal or academic life.
4. Personal Values & Attributes – Share your key personal values, attributes, and abilities, and explain how they would be useful in a school setting.

Pre-Admission Interview
Eligible applicants must complete an interview (in-person or Zoom) with the Dean of Education (or delegate).

Admission is based on:
1. Academic achievement
2. NAAT submission
3. Interview performance

If you have prior study, you may be eligible for credit. Contact the Admissions Team for details.

Course Load
  • 2 years full-time or part-time equivalent
  • Generally, 9 hours per week per subject is required to do well, which includes lectures, readings and assignments
